Synapses, the long-awaited debut album by indie-pop wunderkinds Pleasantry, is finally here. While they have been operating as a sextet for a while now, with up to four guitars driving the lush tunes, the band fronted by dulcet-voiced singer Samantha Teng have promised to up the ante for this show. Violinist Josh Wei, singer/electronic artist weish, Firdhaus Asyraft and the horn section from ska band Cesspit will also be performing.

HAPPY HAPPY HEADBANGER'S BALL VOL: 1

The main event for this multi-act gig is the return of Global Chaos, one of the earliest bands in the local metal scene in the 1980s. Fronted by burly singer Adam Md Yusof, the band will release Louder Than Satan's Lollypop, their first album in 15 years. Among the supporting acts are groove-rock band Suri from Indonesia, Wynken Delirium and W.I.D.B. from Malaysia and local metal outfits Sintoxicate, Witch Seeker & Spine Tree.

WEEKEND NOISE @ SAM

Another gig to watch out for that is part of the Singapore Night Festival 2014 is this showcase by budding bands associated with youth initiative Noise Singapore. The multi-genre acts include past participants who have become regular names in the gig circuit such as indie quintet wyd:syd and pop-rock outfit The Summer State, as well as newer acts who are involved in this year's Noise - jazz-soul band Afterglow and indie rockers Ellipsis.

HOMEMADE 2014: SINGAPORE MUSIC

If you enjoyed the performance by Limpeh rapper Shigga Shay at the recent National Day Parade, now is your chance to watch him in a full set. He kicks off the gigs on both nights, so go early. SUMMERDAZE

Brooklyn rapper Mos Def, one of America's finest hip-hop artists, headlines this poolside party, which also features other American hip-hop acts DJ Shortkut and mixtape master DJ Neil Armstrong, and home-grown act XG. Film fans will recognise Mos Def, these days known as Yasiin Bey, from his roles in movies such as the 2003 caper flick The Italian Job and the 2005 adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
