Chinese actor Nie Yuan might be better known to Singapore audiences for his roles in period dramas, in particular the suave Emperor Qianlong in last year's hit Chinese drama series, Story Of Yanxi Palace.

But one of the 41-year-old actor's upcoming roles will be as a medical examiner in modern crime drama The Listener - and he is putting in the work for that.
