China actresses who are paid more than $16m a film

Angelababy

BEIJING • Actor Huang Xiaoming once admitted that his wife, Angelababy, is not a good actress.

But she may have the last laugh, going by two recent lists on the earning power of actors in China.

In one list that covers actresses, Angelababy is among the 10 women who can command more than 80 million yuan (S$16.7 million) for a drama or film.

In contrast, the other list that tracks actors shows that Huang is in his wife's shadow, drawing only 60 million yuan.

But he may be able to catch up fast, with a career boost from starring with Sylvester Stallone in upcoming movie Escape Plan 2: Hades and walking the red carpet at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

The two lists also confirm - just like the situation in Hollywood - that men are paid more in China, with the likes of Hu Ge, Chen Kun and Yang Yang netting 100 million yuan a project.

Other women in the 80-million-yuan and above list are Yang Mi, Sun Li, Fan Bingbing, Zhang Ziyi and Zhou Dongyu.
