Actor Charlie Sheen is set to make a "revealing personal announcement" on the Today show on Tuesday (Nov 17), according to US broadcaster NBC.

It is rumoured that the former Two and a Half Men star would announce that he is HIV positive.

The pending announcement follows reports about a "mysterious Hollywood star" who has been diagnosed as HIV positive.

NBC said in a statement on Monday that Sheen, 50, would make an announcement in a live interview on its morning Today show.

Known for his womanising ways, the actor has reportedly boasted of sleeping with more than 5,000 women, including pornstars and transexuals.

Sheen has allegedly confessed his infection to almost a dozen sources.

A close friend of the star said the thrice-divorced actor "thought he was indestructible and took no precautions - even though he was indulging in high-risk sex practices".

His second wife, actress Denise Richards, is said to have known about his infection for "a number of years", a source close to Richards told

The source said that Sheen allegedly contracted the virus after he and Richards divorced in 2006. Married for four years, Sheen and Richards, who have two daughters, have "not been intimate" since the divorce.

Neither Richards, nor the couple's children, have been infected with HIV, the source added.

However, his third wife Brooke Mueller claimed that he "potentially" infected her with HIV.

Mueller reportedly blamed her 'psychotic break' on Sheen's alleged diagnosis, said The National Enquirer.

"I had a drug induced psychotic break at Charlie's after doing drugs with Charlie for that many days," Brooke allegedly wrote in a text message.

"I couldn't handle the HIV news."

Sheen and Mueller were married from 2008 to 2011. Sources say the couple's twin boys Bob and Max were virus free, said Daily News.

Sheen's former girlfriend, adult film star Bree Olson, who lived with him four years ago, tweeted about getting tested for HIV, but denied about contracting the virus.

The porn industry too is reportedly affected by this latest revelation.

A porn actress, who claimed to be HIV-free, is said to be worried about other girls who might have contracted the virus from Sheen, according to a Daily Mail report.

She added that it is "common knowledge" in the porn industry that the actor has tested HIV positive - and he might even have had the virus for the past two years.
