Writers Guild awards for Spotlight and Big Short

Spotlight and The Big Short won top prizes at the Writers Guild of America awards on Saturday, two weeks ahead of the Oscars.

Josh Singer picked up the trophy for best original screenplay for Spotlight. Charles Randolph and Adam McKay won for best adapted screenplay for their work transforming the book The Big Short into the film.


Apple's TV show with Dr Dre

Apple is working on an original TV show with Dr Dre, co- founder of Beats Music and an Apple executive, The New York Times said, citing a source.

The six-episode Vital Signs will be offered through the Apple TV streaming video device.


Manilow doing well after surgery

Barry Manilow, 72, is out of surgery and doing well, after the singer was rushed to Los Angeles last week because of complications from emergency oral surgery. His publicist said doctors expect no further complications.
