Writer hosts last show
Writer-humorist Garrison Keillor's radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion signed off the air last Saturday after 42 seasons.
Except for a telephone call from United States President Barack Obama, the show, pre-taped last Friday at the Hollywood Bowl in front of 18,000 fans, had its usual mix of Americana music and comedy.
Mr Obama told him: "One of the reasons I miss driving is that you kept me company."
Prairie Home returns in October with a new host, band Nickel Creek's Chris Thile.
