Road To Mandalay for Singapore film festival

Taiwanese movie The Road To Mandalay, which last Saturday won six Golden Horse Award nominations, will have its Singapore premiere on Dec 1 at the 27th Singapore International Film Festival.

Organisers say the film will screen as one of the festival's Special Presentation Films at Marina Bay Sands. Ticket sales for the festival, on from Nov 23 to Dec 4, start on Oct 28. The film received Golden Horse Award nominations including for best film, best director for Midi Z and acting awards for its stars, Kai Ko and Wu Ke-Xi.


Miss Peregrine's Home tops US box office

Tim Burton's new fantasy Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children bested fellow debut Deepwater Horizon at the North American box office over the weekend, industry estimates showed on Sunday.

In a mediocre start considering the film's US$110-million (S$150-million) budget, Miss Peregrine's Home took in an estimated US$28.5 million to emerge No. 1. Deepwater Horizon opened in second place, with an estimated US$20.6 million in takings.
