Buzzing: Pokemon Go film in the works

Pokemon Go film in the works

Billionaire Wang Jianlin's Legendary Entertainment will team up with the developers of the popular Pokemon Go game to make a live-action film based on the creatures.

Legendary, partnering with The Pokemon Co, will begin production next year for the movie, which will feature Detective Pikachu, said a statement from the companies on Wednesday.

Toho Co will distribute the film in Japan and Universal Pictures will do so internationally. Legendary, a unit of Wang's Dalian Wanda Group Co, is seeking to be the latest beneficiary of the frenzy surrounding Pokemon Go, the Nintendo game in which people use augmented reality to catch creatures with their phones.

Divergent series may end with telemovie, spin-off series

Production company Lionsgate is planning to end the Divergent series with a TV movie and a spin-off series, Variety reported.

The fourth and final movie in the action-adventure series, Ascendant, was to open in cinemas next June.

But now, pending the end of negotiations, the studio wants to end the series on television, the trade journal cited a source as saying.

That would then segue into a standalone television series set in the same post- apocalyptic world, Variety added.
