Maze Runner beats Black Mass

The Maze Runner: Scorch Trails, a sequel to last year's post-apocalyptic young adult hit, The Maze Runner, edged out the true-crime thriller Black Mass, starring Johnny Depp, to top the North American weekend box office, industry estimates said on Sunday.

Filmed for US$61 million (S$85 million), it took in US$30.3 million to beat Black Mass, a biopic about Irish-American mobster James "Whitey" Bulger, which was in second place with US$23.4 million. M. Night Shyamalan's micro-budget horror film The Visit was third.
