Buzzing: Kylie Minogue announces engagement

Kylie Minogue announces engagement

Australian pop diva Kylie Minogue announced her engagement with a notice in the marriages section of last Saturday's Daily Telegraph, the British newspaper reported.

The ad read: "The engagement is announced between Joshua, son of the late Dominic Sasse and of Mary Heale (nee Macauley), of Herefordshire and Kylie, eldest daughter of Ronald and Carol Minogue, of Melbourne, Australia."

British actor Joshua Sasse, 28, was said to have met Minogue, 47, last September when she guest-starred in the musical comedy Gallavant, in which he stars.

At last week's NME Awards, she was seen sporting a diamond ring.

Sasse's family has a link with The Telegraph. His maternal great-grandfather William Berry, 1st Viscount Camrose, bought the paper in 1927, say reports.

Mermaid tops China's box office

Stephen Chow's The Mermaid has broken China's box-office record, overtaking locally made Monster Hunt and Hollywood action movie Furious 7 by pulling in 2.47 billion yuan (S$531 million) by Friday night, Xinhua reported last Saturday, citing official data.

The record was held by Monster Hunt, which took in 2.44 billion yuan last September when it knocked Furious 7 off the top spot. Mermaid took the record on the 12th day of its release.
