LOS ANGELES • American teens ruled the night at Fox's Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, picking winners in categories from movies, television and music to digital. At the Los Angeles event, singer Britney Spears turned heads, appearing in a low-cut frock to collect her Choice Style Icon award.

Actor Vin Diesel gave a shout-out to Paul Walker and his late co-star's daughter Meadow, 16, as he took the surfboard for Choice Movie: Action/Adventure prize with the Furious 7 cast, while Ellen DeGeneres marked her seven-year wedding anniversary to Portia de Rossi by dedicating her Choice Comedian award to the actress.

To no one's surprise, hot favourites One Direction won big, sweeping eight gongs. The band - who accepted their wins via video - were named choice male music group, summer music group and selfie takers. Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson beat former bandmate Zayn Malik to be named choice male hotties.
