SEOUL • She is a veteran in South Korean entertainment circles.

He is a newbie thrown into his first lead role.

But the on-screen chemistry between the two good-lookers - actress Son Ye Jin, 36, and actor Jung Hae In, 30 - in hit drama serial Something In The Rain has sparked talk that they could be dating in real life and become the "the next Song-Song couple".

K-drama fans still cannot get enough of Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki who, after they made waves as an on-screen couple in the 2016 mega-hit series Descendants Of The Sun, went on to marry in real life last year.

Asked about the speculation that they are an item, Jung said last week after shooting had wrapped up for the drama: "I think Son and I should do a high-five. It means that our acting was well-received by the viewers. If mutual respect takes place first, acting can be good.

"I respected her, she respected me," he added in a not-so-convincing dousing of any love talk.

The Korea Herald reported that, on her part, Son did not kiss and tell, saying only: "Co-stars are really important. They take up 80 per cent of my acting. I (had) hoped for someone that I could really love (on screen)."

But other clues point to a budding romance.

On May 3, at the Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony in Seoul, the duo walked the red carpet hand-in-hand and beamed radiantly, with Jung showering Son with lovey-dovey glances.

Fans hoping for another Song-Song romance have also been buoyed by what he said in another interview, reported the Soompi entertainment portal.

"We now contact each other freely. She is no longer an intimidating senior actor around whom I feel awkward, but a close noona (Korean for 'older sister') who is easy to talk to and who listens to my thoughts.

"I hope that even a year from now, we'll still be in touch and contact one another freely."
