LOS ANGELES (AFP) - US actress Zoe Saldana announced Friday she had given birth to twin boys, Cy and Bowie, with her Italian artist husband Marco Perego.

"Happy #2015 ! Starting our #NewYear with a fullhouse," the Avatar star wrote on her Twitter account.

"Our boys are finally here! Thank U 4 all the beautiful wishes!" she added, posting a photo of two bottles and two stuffed animals.

The twins were born Nov 27, according to a statement Friday from Saldana's representative, but the 36-year-old actress had not previously announced the news.

"Mother and sons are happy and healthy," the statement said, adding that the family was "appreciative of the respect of their privacy during this exciting time."

Saldana, also known for her role in Star Trek Into Darkness, married Perego in 2013.
