Hollywood actress Uma Thurman has drawn a storm of opinions since she walked down the red carpet for upcoming TV series The Slap on Monday in New York.

The question that several entertainment media has sought to answer is: "What has Uma Thurman done to her face?" Speculation has been rife that she has done some plastic surgery.

Some even branded her photos "shocking". The actress, who has been hailed for her sensual beauty since she came to fame in the 1980s, turned up with a bold shade of red on her lips, and without any eyeliner or mascara on her eyes. The reason for the change that came from Ms Thurman's make-up artist Troy Surratt, was simply that he used make-up to give her a different look.

He told the People magazine: "Frankly, I'm quite surprised by the conversation... it's only make-up, at the end of the day it all washes off."

He said he was going for the "Parisienne chic look".

Ms Thurman was compared with actress Renee Zellweger, who raised eyebrows in October 2014 by looking little like she did during her Bridget Jones days. She turned up with noticeably wider eyes and higher eyebrows, but she denied going under the knife.

Social media was rife with comments from people who liked Ms Thurman's look, and those who did not, those who saw the difference and cared, and those who did not see the difference, and did not care. Then, there were people who were downright mean, comparing Ms Thurman to the likes of Voldemort, a non-human character from the Harry Potter book series.
