NEW YORK - On Sunday night, actress Heather Locklear was arrested for violent behaviour towards a police officer and emergency personnel.

But hours after she was back home after bail was posted, she was warded in hospital on Monday after authorities were alerted about an overdose, Fox News reported.

The drama had first unfolded on Sunday when the police received a call after 11pm.

Locklear, who has appeared in TV shows Dynasty and Melrose Place, was said to be "heavily intoxicated". She was arguing with other people in her California house.

Said a police spokesman: "In the process of trying to separate her, she battered the deputy. That action caused her to get arrested."

Locklear, 56, spent a night in jail before she went home.

On June 17, she was also warded for evaluation after she reportedly threatened to kill herself.
