TAIPEI - Actor-singer Van Ness Wu ignored questions about his marriage as he returned to Taiwan following news that he and his wife Arissa Cheo had had a spat over Instagram.

He arrived at Taoyuan airport outside Taipei on Thursday, back from spending New Year's Eve in Chengdu, Sichuan, reportedly without his Singapore bride of 16 months.

He and Cheo were said to have stopped following each other on Instagram this week after a rant in which she suggested he is a fake.

On Thursday, Wu met reporters' questions by busily talking on his phone, while what appeared to be his wedding ring was seen on his ring finger.

One question he was asked was: His Instagram page featured a photo of two pet dogs on two separate sofas, so did that mean he and Cheo are sleeping separately?

But Apple Daily quoted one of his pals as saying, "It hasn't reached the stage of divorce yet. They both have blunt personalities. When they quarrel, they use words which are hard on the ear."

In Chengdu for a New Year's eve countdown party, he had looked glum at the press conference, Apple said.

On Weibo, he appended a cryptic New Year's wish saying "And now let us begin the new year, full of things that have never been."

There was no interaction between him and Cheo, 32, on Instagram over the holidays, it was reported.

They wed in 2013 after meeting in 2006.

Screengrabs showed Cheo as writing on Instagram during Christmas: "I am going to give you the same amount of effort as you give me" before she ended the message with expletives.

Warned by a fan not to swear as Wu, 36, is a Christian, she shot back: "Fake faith. Don't believe the hype. What you see on the Telly is definitely not real. Don't tell me what I know." The day after, Wu told his wife to mind her words, reported Apple.
