SINGAPORE - American jazz musician Kamasi Washington is set to perform at Capitol Theatre on Aug 23.
The saxophone player, composer, producer, and bandleader is renowned for his solo albums as well as his work with other acclaimed artists like Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar, jazz veteran Herbie Hancock and electronic artist Flying Lotus.
His 2015 debut solo album, three-disc set The Epic, was hailed by critics for bringing a new audience to jazz. His sophomore album released earlier this month, Heaven And Earth, is even longer and is split up into four discs. Music website Pitchfork praised it as a "multi-genre feast of musical ideas" while The Guardian describes it as "writhingly alive and passionate".
Last year (2017), he put out Harmony Of Difference, a multimedia installation at the 2017 Biennial at New York City's Whitney Museum of American Art. The music was also released as an EP.
Tickets at $98 are available through iGo (https://igo.events).
