9-year-old singing sensation from Hong Kong wows judges on America's Got Talent

You may have seen the viral video of nine-year-old Celine Tam wowing the judges of America's Got Talent with a powerful rendition of Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On.

Millions of people around the world have seen it, going by the views on the videos on Facebook and YouTube.

It turns out that the precocious performer from Hong Kong is no stranger to talent competitions and is already a household name in Hong Kong and China.

Celine, born in November 2007, started taking part in, and winning, children's singing contests when she was four.

She became a viral sensation in China in 2014 with a performance of You Raise Me Up by Secret Garden on Hunan Broadcasting's Let's Sing Kids.

She has even performed on Hong Kong's TVB and at China CCTV's Spring Festival Gala. She entered Britain's Got Talent in 2015, but the then seven year old did not get past initial auditions.

On American's Got Talent, Celine told the judges that her father and mother are great Celine Dion fans, which is why she is named Celine and her little sister Dionne.

"So when did you realise you have a great singing voice?" Judge Mel B asked.

"When I was in the car, my dad's driving and then suddenly I just sang my Heart will Go On and then he was like 'wow'," Celine said.

Father Steve Tam would know as he is a vocal coach. He has been training her since age three, the South China Morning Post said.

When Simon Cowell, another judge on the show, asked Celine what artiste she would be singing, she replied: "Celine Dion, duh."

The young girl then impressed the judges and audience with her big voice as she performed My Heart Will Go On. The audience gave her a standing ovation as she belted out the second verse of the song.

The short video clip ends without letting audiences know if Celine goes on to the next stage of the talent show.

The next episode of the show, in its 12th season, airs in America on Tuesday (June 20).
