Michael Clifford, guitarist from Australian boy band 5 Seconds of Summer, was rushed to hospital on Saturday night after his hair caught fire mid-performance.

Clifford, 19, got too close to a pyrotechnic display that was spewing flames on stage at London's Wembley Arena.

He and his band mates, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood, were performing She's So Perfect, and about to finish the second night of three shows in London.

Videos online showed smoke pouring from his head and him scrambling away from a display that shot tongues of fire every few seconds.

Hours later, he posted a photo of himself doing a thumbs-up on Instagram, and said he was fine, but the left side of his face was bandaged.

"Hello world. im doing ok :) thanks for worrying!" he captioned the picture.

The post had 478,000 likes and more than 90,000 comments by Monday morning.

The pop punk band's first full-length album hit No. 1 on the US Billboard chart last year.

They also won the New Artist Of The Year award at the at the American Music Awards last November.
