Bruce Jenner's transition from male to female still an adjustment says Kim Kardashian

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Bruce Jenner's extended family is still adjusting to the former Olympic decathlon champion's decision to live as a woman, his stepdaughter Kim Kardashian said Monday.

The reality TV star said the family was undergoing therapy to process the change, but said they "all really support him".

"I think as long as he is happy and he wants to live his life however he wants to live it, that just makes me happy. And I support him 100 per cent," she said in an interview on NBC's Today show.

The 65-year-old Jenner went public on his ongoing transition from male to female in a two-hour television interview on Friday, telling ABC's Diane Sawyer: "For all intents and purposes, I am a woman." The 1976 Olympic gold medallist, who later in life returned to the spotlight as the low-key stepdad in Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Jenner surprised many in recent months as the gradual change in his appearance became more evident.

Kardashian, who is married to rap star Kanye West, said reports that the family was divided were "all made up," but she admitted: "There is still an adjustment and there's family therapy and we're really close. Is it a hard adjustment? Yes. (...) It's a daily process," she said.

She said there had been "hundreds" of family meetings, with expressions of "every emotion you could possibly imagine". She said the family also had been consulting with organisations like Glaad, an advocacy group on gay, lesbian and transgender issues, on questions such as "what do we call him? Do we say him or her? How do you be respectful?" She said Jenner should continue to be referred to as "he" until the transition is complete.

"But Bruce has always been really, really good at explaining everything to us even though it's really new and these are new feelings - not newer feelings for him, but for us to digest. He's done a good job of walking us through it." Jenner was married for 24 years to the former Kris Kardashian until their divorce last year.

From 2007, they appeared together on Keeping Up With The Kardashians with their two children - Kendall and Kylie Jenner - and her four children from a previous marriage.

The show became a much debated American cultural touchstone.
