The Volkswagen Group makes around 30,000 vehicles a day. It has taken it 6.3 million vehicles - or the equivalent of seven months - for the facelifted version of its 1.4-litre Golf to land in Singapore.

The facelifted hatch was launched here last November as a 1-litre three-cylinder. Although packing the stylishness, solidity and versatility of a Golf, it lacked verve.
