Readers who vote for their pick of Singapore's best production for the M1-The Straits Times Life Theatre Awards 2016 will now stand to win a two-day, one-night weekend stay for two at the Caroline Astor Suite in the six-star luxury hotel, The St Regis Singapore, inclusive of breakfast.

Originally, the prize was a night's stay at The South Beach hotel.

Sponsor Hong Leong Group, which owns both hotels, sweetened the pot for the lucky draw prize for Production of the Year (Readers' Choice), as part of a "continuing relationship" with the awards.

The hotel has been a venue sponsor for previous editions of the annual awards and is a strong supporter of the arts.

Mr Klaus Christandl, the hotel's general manager, says: "We have close relations with this highly anticipated annual signature event in the Singapore arts circuit."

To be eligible for the prize, readers have to vote online at http://str.sg/ZFdV. Online voting closes on April 5 at 5pm.

Their names will be entered into a lucky draw. Ten lucky readers will win a pair of passes to the invitation-only awards ceremony at the Esplanade Recital Studio on April 25.

One of the 10 will be picked for the grand prize of the hotel stay and this will be done during the ceremony.

The five nominees include the epic Hotel by Wild Rice, as well as Drama Box's trilogy of plays exploring land use in Singapore, It Won't Be Too Long (The Lesson And The Cemetery: Dawn & Dusk).

Rounding up the nominees are the visual feast The Incredible Adventures Of Border Crossers, commissioned by the Singapore International Festival of Arts; The LKY Musical by Metropolitan Productions and the Singapore Repertory Theatre, inspired by Singapore's founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew; and Off Centre, a restaging of an intimate drama about mental illness by Oliver Chong, commissioned by Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.

The Readers' Choice Award is given to the production with the most votes.

This is the 16th year of the awards, which honour top talents in Singapore's theatre industry.
