Reading is more than a hobby, it's a way to escape into alternative realities and new ideas, say Singapore's Kids' Lit Quiz champions.

The four Methodist Girls' School students, 13-year-olds Erin Chan, Hua Xuan Ying, Elizabeth Chua and Tricia Chee, competed against 88 other teams, to win the top prize in the POSB-NLB Kids' Lit Quiz in April, and this week they will fly to Auckland to compete in the Kids' Lit Quiz world finals, an annual literature competition for children aged 10 to 13.

The students must answer questions about literature across genres, ranging from classics and comics to children's literature and contemporary novels.

In a new episode of That's Life podcast, host Lydia Vasko talks to the girls and their teacher, Ms Christina Loong, about when their love of reading began and how they prepared for the challenging quiz.
