Less than a fortnight ago, my son and I stayed up until 5am to watch a couple of teenagers become millionaires.

As 100 gamers royally battled it out in the duo rounds to win US$3 million (S$4 million) in the first Fortnite World Cup in New York City on July 27, I peppered my 13-year-old with questions: What on earth are the avatars building and why are they stuck in a box? Why are they running from the storm? Why are they all heading to higher ground?
