The idea of an artist-run cooperative originated, not from an artist, but architect Lim Chong Keat. The polymath Lim, who is also an avid art collector and botanist, suggested the idea after witnessing an encounter between painter Khoo Sui Hoe and influential collector Frank Sullivan.
