The world's first hand-painted film, done in the style of Vincent van Gogh, was up for an Oscar this year.

Loving Vincent lost to a heartwarming movie about death, Coco, but the animated homage to the life and art of van Gogh is still showing in cinemas here. It is an art film in every sense - a moving, evolving oil painting that retains the thick brushstrokes and bold colour choices of the artist against the patchy canvas of what is known about his life, loves and illnesses.
