Christie's Latin American art sale in New York to surpass $29.7 million

(REUTERS) - Christie's auction house in New York previewed its spring sale of Latin American art, which featured works by well-known artists including Mexican painters Remedios Varo, Rufino Tamayo, and Colombian artist Fernando Botero.

The featured lot of the sale was Varo's surrealist work Vampiros Vegetarianos or Vegetarian Vampires, painted in 1962. The painting has never before been offered at auction, and was completed at the peak of Varo's career.

Christie's estimates the work to sell for up to $2 million. The sale takes place on May 27 and 28.
