(PHILIPPINE DAILY INQUIRER/ANN) - Crayola is to retire its Dandelion colour from its classic 24-crayon box.

The art materials company announced the woeful news via Twitter on Friday (March 31) with a video of an animated Dandelion crayon named "Dan D" explaining why he wants to withdraw from the colourful universe and rest at Crayola's Hall of Fame.

Originally, Crayola opted to broadcast which colour it is scrapping in celebration of the National Crayon Day later on Friday. But this did not push through when Dan D revealed his retirement ahead of Crayola's Facebook live announcement at New York's Times Square.

"I made it my mission to inspire creativity wherever I traveled because with a little imagination, nothing is impossible," the crayon said. "I've done big things: track down pirates' treasure, discover lost temples and tame the world's most ferocious beasts. I think retirement's going to be my wildest adventure yet."

To succeed's Dandelion's spot in the box set, Crayola is slated to announce a new colour soon.

Dandelion was introduced as the newest member of the Crayola family in 1990 and was added to the 24-crayon collection in 1999, CNBC reported.

Although Dandelion is the first crayon from the 24-piece box set to be evicted, it was not the first colour to do so in Crayola's history. During the same year Dandelion was incorporated in the box set, eight colours retired: Maize, Lemon Yellow, Blue Gray, Raw Umber, Green Blue, Orange Red, Orange Yellow, and Violet Blue.

Joining Dandelion as replacements were Jungle Green, Vivid Tangerine, Cerulean, Teal Blue, Royal Purple, Fuchsia, and Wild Strawberry.

During Crayola's festive celebration of its 100th year in 2003, the company kicked out Blizzard Blue, Magic Mint, Mulberry and Teal Blue, and replaced them with Inchworm, Mango Tango, Wild Blue Yonder and Jazz Berry Jam.
