Man Booker shortlist out

A Strangeness In My Mind by Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk, Chinese author Yan Lianke's The Four Books and The Vegetarian by South Korea's Han Kang are on the shortlist for this year's Man Booker International Prize for literature, announced yesterday.

The others are A General Theory Of Oblivion by Jose Eduardo Agualusa of Angola, The Story Of The Lost Child by Italian writer Elena Ferrante and A Whole Life by Austria's Robert Seethaler.

The £50,000 (S$96,600) prize, to be awarded on May 16 in London, honours the best foreign book published in English translation by British publishers last year.
