Artist-poet Latiff on Colombo inspiration

In 1964, the Malaysian modernist painter and poet Latiff Mohidin returned home from Europe aboard a French ocean liner.

In the port of Colombo, Sri Lanka, he saw more thin, hungry dock workers than he had ever seen in his life.
