American soprano Angel Blue competed in beauty pageants to fund her musical education.

"Opera is no different from beauty pageants to me," says the singer, who performs as Mimi in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's (SSO) gala performance of La Boheme on Friday and Saturday.
