SINGAPORE - The mean streets of cyberpunk noir, where high tech meets low life, are where British author Richard K. Morgan's career was born. After years in other genres, he is returning to his roots.

The 53-year-old is best known for his debut Altered Carbon (2002), a violent dystopian novel that was made into a Netflix series this year. In it, humans can upload their consciousness into devices called "stacks" and thus swap and discard bodies, but this technology has led to grave socio-economic inequality.
