SINGAPORE - Pack a picnic and settle down at the Padang for a 20-minute slideshow of art at the National Gallery Singapore's light-up.

The Gallery has gone one better than the other buildings in the civic district for their National Day celebrations with artworks projected on the Golden Canopy for the first time. The canopy is the metal structure linking the former City Hall and Supreme Court buildings. It is also the first time the Gallery put out an open call for artists to submit works responding to pieces in the museum's collection. The response was overwhelming, with more than 180 entries which the curators then whittled down to 60 works.
