A thorny stint selling durians

In this new series, Sunday Times writer John Lui takes on a part-time job for a day or two to see if someone who has done one job all his life can make it in today's economy. The hot month of July marks the height of durian season here, so this week, he sells durian for a day - and manages to walk away with fingers all intact

There are preachers who say the banana is proof that we are living in a world designed by God. The banana fits the human hand and is easy to peel and delicious, they say.

Well, the durian would like a word with them. Is it delicious? Oh yes. Does it look like a hand grenade designed by German tank engineers? Also yes.
