Many eateries in trendy locales serving delicious, affordable food can be found in the city

Hoa Tuc offers an extensive menu of Vietnamese dishes presented in original ways, including a dish called tender beef dipped in hot pot (above) that came with a claypot of piquant stock over a roaring charcoal fire.
Quan An (Above), which serves unfussy classic Vietnamese fare, is located in a charming old little house in a narrow alley in District 1.
Local Vietnamese restaurant Hoa Tuc (above) is located in an old two-storey bungalow that is said to be an opium refinery previously.
Cafe Apartment (above), an old eight-storey residential apartment that is occupied by cafes, restaurants and shops run mainly by young Vietnamese, is one of the trendiest places for tourists in Ho Chi Minh City.

When I visited Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam about five years ago, I left unimpressed. Except for half-day tours to the Chu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta, I did not find much to do.

There was no shopping to keep me occupied as I was not interested in the tourist souvenirs and knock-offs at the popular Ben Tanh Market.
