Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana and Brigitte Bardot. These iconic and powerful women are beauty goals at aesthetic clinic SW1 Clinic, with the design of the treatment rooms drawing inspiration from each woman, reflecting the clinic’s goals of empowering change in its customers.
As one of the largest aesthetic, plastic surgery and medical spa establishments in Singapore, SW1 Clinic combines non-invasive cosmetic dermatology and plastic surgery to best serve its clients’ varying needs.
Located in Paragon Mall along Orchard Road, the clinic boasts over 7,000 sq ft of space. It is a Ministry of Health-accredited day surgery centre, with two fully-equipped operating theatres and over 23 treatment rooms.
Helmed by a team of dedicated and experienced aesthetic experts, the clinic offers aesthetic treatments making use of technologies such as Fraxel, a fractional laser skin treatment that improves facial appearance; Thermage, the use of radiofrequency energy that kick starts the body’s natural renewal process; and Ultherapy, an ultrasound procedure that naturally lifts and tightens the skin.
Power couple empowering others
Not just a doctor but also an entrepreneur and author, SW1 Clinic founder Dr Low Chai Ling and her husband and partner Dr Kenneth Lee opened the clinic last year as a “global wellness village” featuring the beauty treatments from all over the world.
The husband-and-wife team co-founded The Sloane Clinic, one of Singapore’s first aesthetic clinics, in 2003 around the time when aesthetic laser technology was gaining popularity worldwide.
Dr Low is also the author of In Full Bloom: Look Fabulous During and After Pregnancy, a coffee table book on beauty and wellness issues for pregnant women.
A graduate of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, part of King’s College London GKT School of Medical Education, Dr Low is passionate about empowering others, especially women, to make a difference not just in their careers or in their families, but in society as a whole.
“At SW1, we have built an environment that prioritises the patients’ interests and furthering of knowledge. With this open door concept, patients do not just get one doctor at SW1 — they can tap on the collective expertise and experience of all our doctors, specialists and experts working collaboratively to achieve their long term beauty and wellness goals,” says Dr Low.
Her husband, Dr Lee, has a special interest in ablative lasers and fillers, and is skilled in facial thread lift procedures, in which he has trained many other doctors.
Always at the forefront of innovation, his love for science and technology, and his skill in robotics, led him to be one of the first in Singapore to utilise and train other doctors in using Fraxel lasers, Thermage, PPx and other aesthetic innovations.
At the top of their game
The specialists at SW1 Clinic are passionate not just about beauty, but also about a holistic and healthy lifestyle. Highly skilled and experienced, the team of professionals share a common devotion to caring for patients’ health.
Currently, its team of seven experienced doctors includes two highly qualified plastic surgeons. Collectively, they bring together vast experience and extensive knowledge in the field of aesthetics and cosmetic medicine, with Dr Low and Dr Lee being veterans in the aesthetics field since 2003.
Her philosophy to never stop improving is shared by her team of doctors.
Despite their vast experience, the team continues to keep abreast of the techniques and innovations in the field. With their collective passion and dedication, they are opinion leaders in the field of aesthetic medicine and cosmetic surgery.
They also share a vision to empower the people they meet to be the best version of themselves and have a common philosophy of “live your dream”.
To embody this, SW1 holds regular public educational workshops for free or at cost as a form of public service, to arm the public not just with vital knowledge on aesthetic innovations but also on other aspects of wellness.
Wellness workshops can be a self-defense session to empower women or a talk about diet and exercise.
In good hands
One of only two surgeons in Singapore who can perform ear reconstruction surgery, Dr Tan Ying Chen is the consultant plastic surgeon at SW1 Clinic Plastic Surgery Centre. He is also a visiting consultant at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
Dr Tan holds a Master of Medicine (Surgery) from NUS and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He also trained under the illustrious Dr Satoru Nagata at Nagata Microtia and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Clinic in Japan and is a breast augmentation surgeon in Singapore.
The other is Dr Chia Hui Ling with multiple accolades under her belt.
A member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, she has received multiple fellowship awards to undergo training in the UK and Korea. She is a plastic surgeon with Smile Asia, a global alliance of charities that treat facial deformities through surgical missions and education.
Dr Chia also co-founded Breast Reconstruction Awareness Singapore (BRAS), a non-profit society established to support breast cancer survivors on their road to recovery. As one of the few female plastic surgeons in Singapore, she is highly sought after by many women who prefer a female doctor. She empathises with many patients’ concerns about plastic surgery, and is respected and well-liked because of it.
