SINGAPORE – Three Singapore bars are on the 51-100 list of the 2024 World’s 50 Best Bars. Two of them are first-time entries.
The 51-100 list was released on Tuesday, two weeks before the announcement of the top 50 list in Madrid, Spain.
Ranked No. 56 is Cat Bite Club in Duxton Road, which specialises in agave and rice spirits. The bar was co-founded in 2023 by industry veterans Jesse Vida, a former head bartender at cocktail bar Atlas, and Gabriel Lowe, former bar manager of Paradise Lost in Bangkok.
Native in Amoy Street jumped to No. 67 from No. 83 in 2022. Native specialises in cocktails and food made with South-east Asian ingredients and flavours.
At No. 74 is Night Hawk in Tanjong Pagar Road. Night Hawk opened its doors in 2022 and was ranked 16th on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list for 2024.
Singapore is the Asian country with the most entries on the 51-100 list. Globally, the United States had the most bars on the 51-100 list, with seven entries.
The 51-100 list includes bars from 35 different cities around the world. Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand have two mentions each.
In 2023, three Singapore bars made it into the top 50: Jigger & Pony at Amara Hotel (No. 14), Sago House in Duxton Hill (No. 32), and Atlas at Parkview Square (No. 48).
Singapore bars Analogue Initiative, 28 HongKong Street, Manhattan and Nutmeg & Clove made the 51-100 list in 2023. They may yet appear on the top 50 list, which will be announced on Oct 22.
Analogue Initiative, ranked 78th on 2023’s list, announced in August that it will close its current location at Chijmes after Nov 15.
Managed by British media company William Reed, the annual ranking of bars is voted on by an international academy of more than 700 drinks experts, including bartenders and drinks writers.
Each panellist casts seven votes for his or her best bar experiences in the previous 18 months.
In 2023, the World’s 50 Best Bars awards ceremony was held in Singapore, the first time the prestigious event was held outside Europe.
