In May, 14 people, including Major-General Lim Bo Seng's descendants, visited historical landmarks of the war hero's final journey in Perak, Malaysia.

PERAK — The year is 1945 and Japan has just surrendered in World War II. A young widow approaches the graveyard behind Batu Gajah prison in Perak. The cemetery is thick with undergrowth, but that does not deter her search.
She eventually finds her husband’s grave among the many who died in this prison. His remains will be brought back to Singapore to be given a hero’s burial. She does not think to mark his grave.
