EV manufacturers often mention “useable battery capacity” – around 7 to 10 per cent less than the energy of the installed battery pack – which is essentially the net battery capacity, as opposed to the gross battery capacity.
An equivalent would be a combustion car’s fuel tank reserve, which allows you to drive for several kilometres after the fuel indicator is at zero.
