Intrigued by the changing automotive landscape, this driver delved into researching electric vehicles (EVs) when his internal combustion engine car approached its fifth year.
Eager to be an early adopter, Mr Woon Wee Chiang, who works in real estate, was convinced that it was the right decision to drive an EV in Singapore, given its relatively compact size.
Fascinated and attracted by the design and technology, he was led to the Volvo EX30, which was launched in January.
The car’s 475km range and rapid-charging capability – 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 28 minutes – aligned with Mr Woon’s daily needs and desire for efficiency.
“It is within my expectations of a good and stable drive,” says the 56-year-old. “The peace and quiet in the cabin and the instant torque, when needed, have been good. The Volvo EX30 has been very comfortable and easy to drive.”

Charging the EV has not been an issue for him either. He charges three to four times a week using public chargers near home and at his workplace, or while running errands.
With the Government ramping up installation of charging stations in every Housing Board town – every estate is slated to be EV-ready by 2025 – drivers’ fear of a lack of access to chargers is gradually allayed.
Couple that with the slew of rebates and incentives available for early adoption of EVs, and Singapore is certainly on track to fulfilling the vision of having all vehicles run on cleaner energy by 2040.
Besides the Volvo EX30, these EV offerings featured here are just as zippy – and all on show at The Car Expo.
