SINGAPORE - As a child, Ms Candice Yeo played with buttons, pretending they were pills. Whenever she visited a clinic, she would role-play as a nurse.

Naturally, she wanted to grow up to be one, but her mother was against it as "the status was much lower" some two decades back.
