People collect things for many reasons. Some do it for profit, others for pleasure or prestige.
Sociologist Kiven Strohm from the National University of Singapore offers yet another reason: "We might collect or hold onto particular objects and things because they keep alive memories and feelings or give us a sense of belonging both familial and collective (nation, community)."
