Japanese architect Kengo Kuma says substance beats style in building design

Architect Kengo Kuma believes that in a post-pandemic world, the days of designing structures as enclosed spaces are numbered.

"Covid-19 has taught us that enclosed boxes and high-density living in city centres have no place in the future of design," Mr Kuma, 66, tells The Straits Times in an interview via video conference from his head office in Tokyo.
