Come Sept 13, illumi, billed as the world’s largest light, sound and multimedia event, will take over the Bayfront Event Space next to Marina Bay Sands.
The Straits Times highlights what visitors can look forward to during the immersive night experience.
Escape to a sensory dreamland
Illumi made its debut in Montreal, Canada, in October 2019, and its arrival in Singapore – thanks to live entertainment company Base Entertainment Asia – is the first time it will perform outside the land of maple trees and moose.
It was created by the team behind Cavalia, the equine theatrical spectacular that performed in Singapore in 2014, as led by Mr Normand Latourelle, a veteran of the performing arts industry and a co-founder of the world-famous Cirque du Soleil.
Mr Latourelle, who has 45 years of experience in the business, tells The Straits Times over an e-mail interview that he designed illumi to be an escapist dream world full of light installations and animatronic sculptures.
He says: “It will not be like a museum. There will be music. People will be able to climb onto some of the sculptures, take selfies… Kids will be able to run around and touch things.”
Most importantly, he adds: “It will be a place where you can go with your mother, your grandmother, your friends – whatever age you are, you will have a blast”.
