SINGAPORE – Recent entrants to South Beach Avenue have breathed new life into the foodie enclave, providing an escape off the busier City Hall stretch.

While

Roman restaurant Medusa,

which debuted in January, may be the talk of the town, its neighbour Pera Turkish Grill & Mezze – officially launched in October 2025 – should not be missed.

Bathed in the glow of light bulbs inspired by Istanbul’s iconic Yeni Mosque, the space offers an immediate sense of warmth and cosiness.

Turkish chef Volkan Ince helms the open kitchen, while the dishes are presented by the effervescent Turkey-born Singaporean co-owner and general manager Guzide Koksal, who has been living in Singapore for the past 15 years.

The star dishes for me include the Guvec Mantar ($26), mushrooms cooked till juicy and tender, and topped with melted aged kashkaval cheese; Ege Izgara Levrek ($62), grilled sea bass; and a vibrant Bostana salad ($22) of diced tomatoes, cucumber and onion drenched in just the right amount of lemon juice to cut through all the rich flavours.

Other highlights include the Fistikli Beyti ($36), lamb kebab with pistachio, wrapped in lavash and served with garlic yogurt, tomato butter and sumac onion; and Izgara Hellimli Sarma ($18), grilled halloumi wrapped in wine leaves and served with cherry tomato salsa and pine nuts.

Wash everything down with cocktails (from $18) or a refreshing Turkish lemonade ($10) with a touch of lemon salt.

End on a sweet note with Fistikli Baklava ($16) or Kabak Tatlisi ($16), candied pumpkin drizzled with tahini and walnuts.
