SINGAPORE – There is no need to travel overseas to get your Peking duck fix from the famed Chinese chain Quanjude.
It is now available here – albeit as a frozen, ready-to-heat product – at all FairPrice outlets.
It was launched on Feb 9, in line with the new Xtra Lab: Ba Ba Dian section in the 24-hour FairPrice Xtra supermarket at Jurong Point.
Master chef Wu Yubo of Quanjude was in town for the launch of the frozen duck range.

While nothing beats having a chef skilfully slice the duck’s skin at a restaurant, this comes close for a fuss-free dish that you can whip out any time at home.
The 410g set ($23.50 till Feb 25, usual price $28.80) includes two packets of sauce, wraps and a portion of sliced duck – with a sufficient amount of crispy skin and meat – that is good for two to three people.
The Peking duck set comes frozen with sauce, wraps and meat.

The duck can be reheated in an air fryer or oven, while the wraps can go into the microwave. My meal was done in under 10 minutes.
I recommend adding spring onions and cucumber for extra crunch and to cut through the oil from the fatty skin.
Besides the Peking duck, the Quanjude frozen range comprises soya sauce duck and salted duck. Both are priced at $16.80 till Feb 25 (usual price, $18). These items are part of more than 600 products at Xtra Lab – FairPrice Group’s first store-in-store concept.
The product focus is on China for the debut launch, but there are plans to expand into other themes such as Best of Japan or Best of Thailand.
The selection is curated in partnership with China’s leading on-demand online grocery platform Dingdong Fresh and Hong Xin Da, a Singapore-based company that specialises in food and beverage supply chain solutions.
Other highlights from the wide variety of snacks, sauces, drinks and instant food include a frozen Yummy Hunter Mala Grilled Fish ($12); Yummy Hunter cakes ($7.30) that come in various shapes like bears and capybaras; and Bai Cao Wei Dried Fruit (from $1 for a 25g packet), bite-size mango strips with an interesting fizzy sensation when eaten.
