NEW YORK – Warner Bros Discovery will launch its Max streaming service across seven Asian markets, including Singapore, on Nov 19, making the platform available in more than 72 markets.

The media giant said on Oct 15 it will bring popular content from brands such as HBO, Discovery, the DC Universe, Harry Potter and Cartoon Network to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Currently, selected content from Warner Bros Discovery is available in Singapore on the streaming service HBO Go. Existing HBO Go subscribers will automatically become Max users.

When Max is available on Nov 19, the Max app will replace HBO Go in app stores. Existing HBO Go users can then download the Max app and sign in using their HBO Go account e-mail and password.

American sitcom classic Friends (1994 to 2004), which is currently available on Netflix in Singapore but will be leaving the service after Oct 31, is expected to be available via Max. The sitcom was produced by Warner Bros.

Max’s launch in these seven markets comes after the company said in September that it expects to add more than six million subscribers to its Max streaming platform in the third quarter.

Warner Bros Discovery relaunched its streaming service in May 2023 with expanded programming offerings and extended Max to Europe this May, capitalising on the anticipation of the Olympic Games held in Paris.

Max streaming service includes premium content from HBO, along with programmes from HGTV, the Food Network, Discovery Channel and other cable networks. REUTERS
