LOS ANGELES - The Hand Of God, director Paolo Sorrentino's bittersweet coming-of-age story, was inspired by a horrific tragedy he suffered as a boy - and which he escaped because of his obsession with footballer Diego Maradona.
When Sorrentino was 17 and living in Naples, Italy, his parents died from carbon monoxide poisoning in their holiday home.
