LOS ANGELES – Grammy award-winning singer Taylor Swift will make her film directorial debut with an original script she wrote, Searchlight Pictures said last Friday.
Walt Disney-owned Searchlight, known for Oscar best picture winners The Shape Of Water (2017) and Nomadland (2020) as well as 2022 drama The Banshees Of Inisherin, did not disclose the subject of Swift’s film or when it would be released.
“Taylor is a once-in-a-generation artiste and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey,” Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said in a statement.
Swift, who turns 33 on Tuesday, is one of the most successful artistes of the last few decades.
The Shake It Off (2014) singer won awards in Best Direction, Best Longform Video and Video of the Year at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, and is the second woman to direct a winning Best Longform Video, which was All Too Well: The Short Film (2021).
She is the first artiste to win Video of the Year three times. She previously won for Bad Blood (featuring Kendrick Lamar, 2015) and You Need To Calm Down (2019), reported Billboard.
She is an 11-time Grammy winner and the only female artiste in Grammy history to win the coveted Album of the Year award three times.
Swift recently earned another Grammy nomination for Song of the Year, the 10-minute version of All Too Well, which is eligible for the Best Live-Action Short category at the 2023 Oscars.
Her 10th studio album, Midnights, was released to critical acclaim in October.
Demand for the singer’s upcoming Eras tour was so strong that Ticketmaster’s systems crashed in November when tickets went on sale.
