American pop superstar Taylor Swift said on Oct 13 that she will release a concert film and a six-part documentary series chronicling the final leg of her extremely successful Eras Tour on Disney+ on Dec 12, expanding her partnership with the streaming service.
Disney+, which streamed an earlier cut of The Eras Tour film in March 2024, is deepening its collaboration with the 35-year-old, leaning into exclusive live music and her large, devoted global fan base to attract new subscribers in a competitive market.
In a post on X, Swift said The Eras Tour: The Final Show will stream the full performance from her final tour stop in Vancouver, Canada, on Dec 8, including the entire live set of her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department, which she incorporated into the tour from May 2024.
Disney+ will also debut the first two episodes of a six-part docuseries titled The Eras Tour: The End Of An Era, offering behind-the-scenes access to what Swift called “the most important and intense chapter” of her career. It will give an “intimate look at Taylor’s life” and spotlight performers, family members and friends, including Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch.
The Eras Tour, which began in March 2023 and spans Swift’s two-decade catalogue, has become the highest-grossing tour in history after generating more than US$2 billion (S$2.6 billion) in ticket sales
The previous film version, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which premiered in cinemas in 2023, is the highest-grossing concert movie ever, with takings of over US$261 million.
Swift’s latest album, The Life Of A Showgirl, became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day after its Oct 3 release and has since sold over four million equivalent album units in the United States. It smashed the record set by English singer Adele’s 2015 album 25, which sold almost 3.5 million copies out of the gate – a total unsurpassed for a decade.
The Life Of A Showgirl also powered straight to No. 1 on the British music charts, “securing the biggest opening week of the year in just three days... (and ending) the week on a staggering 423,000 combined chart units”, the Official Charts Company said.
Its first week of release was the biggest in Britain since English singer Sheeran’s Divide in 2017 and the biggest opening week for an international album in Britain this century, it added.
The Life Of A Showgirl also set records for different formats, including the most first-week album downloads in 2025 and the most British album streams in a week, with streaming contributing 84,000 stream-equivalent sales.
For vinyl, it became Britain’s fastest-selling album this century with 126,000 sales, and the biggest one-week vinyl sale since modern chart records began in 1994.
The album’s lead single and opening track, The Fate Of Ophelia, topped the British singles chart, followed by songs Opalite and Elizabeth Taylor at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. REUTERS
